In Brief

Need a little inspiration for your writing day? Try this quotation by Pulitzer Prizewinner Suzi-Lori Parks.

“The writer has two kinds of faith: actual writing and sitting openly. Have faith in your personal effort or sweat. And faith in God, or whatever you want to call it. Then the voices will come. Faith is the big deal.”
― Suzan-Lori Parks

Suzi-Lori performed a project called “Watch Me Work” where she allowed the public to observe her while writing. It took place on the mezzanine of The Public Theater lobby. The audience was invited to come and watch her work, and/or share the space and get some of their own writing work done. During the last forty minutes of the performance, Parks answered questions from the audience regarding their own work and their creative process.

You can watch recordings of her “Watch Me Work” on YouTube.
