Theatre’s Reaction to Current Events

Patricia MiltonBlog, News & Stuff

There will be a Dramatists Guild Town Hall Tuesday, August 22, 7:30 pm at Potrero Stage, hosted by DG’s Director of Creative Affairs Tina Fallon. I’ll be on a panel with other playwrights talking about reacting to recent disastrous events. It’s part of 3Girls Theatre’s 6th Annual New Works Festival – Radical Hope & the New Resistance. Since all my plays are explicitly political, I haven’t essentially altered my themes or writing. It will be fascinating to hear how others feel.

In response to the rapidly changing political and social environment since the 2016 election, The Dramatists Guild has identified an emerging need to better support and catalyze civic and political engagement by our playwrights and to strengthen the bonds of local communities through theater. The Guild has officially launched a new Political Engagement Committee, chaired by Lisa Kron (Fun Home playwright). Local playwrights will be essential to this process, helping to identify core issues in their communities, and working with their regional representatives and the national organizer to strategize.

Free tickets to the event may be obtained here. You need not be a member of the Dramatists Guild to attend!
